In order to ensure the best sorting, categorizing and searching files/folders you will have to use some innovative solutions instead of default windows explorer. Is that clam true? At some level, yes. Tabbles represents new concept, something refreshing,improved and for someone worth trying.
The main screen comes different from any other you have ever seen (probably), but yet very well structured and efficient. It contains bubbles(Tables) grouped in color coded categories that are very easy to work with. Adding tables/categories is very simple, just click on create new tabble button at the top left corner(ctrl+n) and create new tabble, new folder-tabble, new extension-table, or new category. Also you can add new tables by clicking on "Create tabble here" button which is available for every category individually. Of course you will choose new item according to your needs.
Linking is also very easy, just select as many tables/folders you want and you will see popup panel with combine button on it. Clicking on it you make your desired combination. Adding files can be managed in several ways, quick link, drag & drop,copy & paste. Except quick link adding, the other two ways are dependent on windows explorer. You need to open mycomputer and drag & drop from there which is pretty illogical if you look at the program as potential file manager. Copy & paste we do not need to explain.
Double clicking on your combination will show all the files linked to each one of the tabbles you have combined. Thatﾒs fine and useful to some point. We do not understand point of adding tabbles for every file individually and what about Windows reinstallation. We assume Tabbles will not be able to preserve your work after windows reinstallation.
One strange thing we found during testing is its inability to open extensions like any other file manager. It is quite odd that Tabbles cannot recognize file extensions. This means it opens jpg files in browser and for any other extension we tested png,pdf,doc,docx,mp3 it shows "File download mirror" and asks you whether to open file with custom program or save it and you need to search that file all over your HDD. This is rather annoying and we believe that it should be changed as soon as possible.
Tabbles has very unusual search engine, this is because of its concept "don't search for files, think of them". Developers suggest you remember the characteristics of the file(s) and use "Horizontal browsing", the new way of searching. Horizontal browsing allows you to navigate throughout your files and folders based on the tabbles they are linked to. On top of this, we found horizontal browsing not to be confusing, rather easy to understand and slightly improved in comparison to default windows search. But again everything Tabbles does you can do with a basic windows search, by searching of file extension and it is equally fast.
Tabbles interface is great, professional, all animations around tables, hovers, basically everything looks just great. Nice work developers. Orientation is really good, Tabbles supports zoomin/zoomout(using mouse wheel or scroll bar), moving your view (down,up,left,right with mouse while holding right button or with panel specifically designed for that) and auto center zoom. All that options are available at left side on main screen and we really liked those because your job is much easier with them. Also main screen has three different looks: categories, spatical, alphabetical. We will let you decide which one fits you, for us the best one was categories view.
Overall, Tabbles is something new, different and it's intent is clear but still a lot of work has to be done. Nonetheless this is nice, interesting tool, it's good to have it, but not necessary and we believe its definitely not worth that 60$.
